Roy Creek Salmonid Enhancement Society
In the spring of 2017, thanks Sandra P., Quest Program participants had an opportunity to volunteer on a project at the Roy Creek Hatchery. It involved moving fry from large holding tanks into a natural pond, where they will live and grow before beginning their journey out to sea.
These are the offspring the wild coho that made their way from the Salish Sea up Roy Creek to spawn.
Sensitive Habitat Signs
Through our involvement, we were able to sign a contract with Canada Fisheries and Oceans to clean and restore “Sensitive Environmental Habitat” signs along creeks, streams and rivers – both urban and rural – in the Comox Valley, throughout the summer.
Storm Drain Marking
We also hope to begin marking storm drains, to remind our community not to dispose of harmful or toxic substances that will affect our fish.
